The Contemporary Crafts Market will return to the Santa Monica Civic
Auditorium for its 23rd season as the West Coast’s premiere event for
one-of-a-kind functional and decorative crafts. This year’s Market will
showcase over 250 of the nation’s finest artists and their distinctive
works, ranging from intricate jewelry, unique glassware and ceramics to
hand-painted textiles, custom furniture, mixed-media creations and much
more. All items on display and for sale have been jury-selected for their
exceptional quality.
Roy Helms, Contemporary Crafts Market Founder, has continually sought to
raise awareness of fine crafts as a serious art form by highlighting
talented artists who have created a name for themselves and whose works
can be found in national and international museums or galleries.
“Each
year, the Contemporary Crafts Market provides shoppers and collectors with
some of the finest craft pieces from across the United States,” Helms
explained. “This year will be no exception, as these artists have once
again provided exceptional pieces for the home.”
Long Beach native Linda Lundell will be among this year’s participating
artists. An outstanding artist specializing in fine cloisonné enamels,
Lundell’s work is strongly influenced by her close relationship with
nature. Through her art she hopes to inspire people to preserve the
country’s natural beauty for future generations.
Lundell will be joined by fellow Southern Californian Scott Kempton of San
Diego. Kempton served as an apprentice at Blacksheep Glass for eight
years, before buying the company in 2001. Although classically trained,
Kempton enjoys experimenting with new designs and combines a variety of
techniques in his work. He looks to the beautiful beaches and landscapes
of his hometown for inspiration.
Also participating is Glenn Dizon, whose childhood fascination with opals
and gemstones has been manifested in a vibrant line of jewelry.
Maintaining a simple aesthetic, Dizon aims to create designs that
complement and enhance the natural shape and beauty of the selected
stones. Dedicating himself to each of his works from start to finish, he
only produces about 60 one-of-a-kind pieces a year.
The Contemporary Crafts Market will be held Friday June 6, Saturday June 7
and Sunday June 8 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Santa Monica Civic
Auditorium. Admission is $7.00 for adults and free for children 12 and
under. For more information please call (310) 285-3655.
